We will start today with a quick update on the Stuart train station and what a wild week its it has been so far because of it. As the City of Stuart's commission chambers was packed with local neighbors over the train station status, it has come to a temporary end. Many folks stood up and voiced their opinions and fought for what they wanted; many went home discouraged after long hours of debate. Everyone was tired. The City of Stuart voted to descend the train station leaving it to Martin County commissioners to make a final decision. Strangely, the Martin County commissioner's chambers wasn't nearly as packed but still had loyal residents there to voice their opinions. The Martin County commissioners with their hands full, voted to table the station with a promise to try to get a better deal from Brightline. We will update you as soon as we can with new information. Good job to both Commissions, it wasn't easy. A dammed if you do and dammed if you don't situation most definably.
So, to be continued...
As the newest LPA agenda came out, found at this link: https://martin.legistar.com/DepartmentDetail.aspx?ID=39443&GUID=52FD16B4-3EEC-4E39-8581-A16495CBE3E1&Search=
There has been what looks like changes or additions if you will, to Three Lakes Gold Club, they are allowing up to 54 golf cottages (these are permitted as an accessory use to golf course) with a maxim of 324 bedrooms. Each of the other cottages will be 1-2 story with 2-12 bedrooms each. With that many rooms, it seems more like mini hotels. How will this affect Martin County traffic and congestion in Martin County? How many other developments will want to follow suit? That is a LOT of expansion! So please, if you are concerned at all join us at the meeting tomorrow evening at 7pm, held in the Martin County commissioners' chambers.
In other news~
SOS had their first meeting since the decision to restructure. However, being on a busy, rainy Monday night with some attending the City of Stuart meeting, it was a small gathering. We thank those who showed up and hope our next meeting come November (evening to be announced) will entice you to unite in advocacy for our future. Save Our Salerno is strong, will continue to be strong and with your help will continue our goal of ensuring the Port Salerno remains a vibrant and inclusive community that honors its past while embracing a sustainable future.
Saturday September 21st at 9am we are holding our community clean up!
Starting at 9am, we will meet at Basin Market and end up with a cookout (11:00) at the SOS headquarters. We are excited about this because due to the heat our last cleanup was cancelled. Please let Tami know if you will be attending so we have a headcount for food.
