Let's Catch Up!

Tami

The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind! Here’s a little update on what’s been going on.

Following the recent tornados that devastated our community, a post surfaced on social media from someone looking to exploit our situation for personal profit. We’re not sure how many of you saw his post in Stuart locals 2 DAYS after the tornados hit and destroyed parts of our community, but it sickens us! It is disheartening to see individuals taking advantage of our vulnerable state for personal gain. What kind of person would do this? Someone who wants YOUR money to fill HIS wallet and at the same time destroy what is left of our beautiful historical community. You can go back and search for it on Stuart Locals Facebook page and read the comments and even leave one of your own. Date of post on picture. He’s proven to be one of those who love all the negative attention.

Let us not forget our own district 4 commissioner is helping him set up his meetings. There was a meeting organized with Heard, Crawley, Kores and Shilling. (suggested by Heard) Where Crawley sat there saying what he “wants” yet not producing plans. Wasting people time and our tax dollars on unsuccessful meetings. Bringing nothing to the table. Again. Why does he insist on harassing our historic town of Port Salerno? Why not go somewhere else that has the space and needs for development? Why doesn’t he cough up the money for it? If you haven’t yet, please go to the link below and read the emails from Corey Crawley. To save you scrolling time, click the link and in search bar type Corey Crowley, his will pop up.

Speaking of the district 4 commissioner, where has she been? She was not seen helping the community once before, during and after the tornado destruction. Only to be seen on her daily walks, seemingly oblivious to the destruction and suffering around her.  She stated that she doesn’t “grandstand”. It's not about grandstanding; it's about genuine care and action. As we all know, actions speak louder than words. We had two present commissioners and one elected that showed their support, were they “grandstanding”? No, they were going above and beyond their jobs, showing that they care. Even a Stuart commissioner asked her to speak, and she had nothing to say.

Our SOS founder Casey reached out to Toby Oberdorf this past week and together they were able to arrange help for Port Salerno residents at the Port Salerno Civic Center. It was only AFTER the relief efforts with Toby did Sarah jump in to attend.

BOCC 10/22

Of course, as usual Martin County transparency is lacking again. Before Stuart even finalized their vote on the Brightline station, Martin County secretly passed it in TWO days without any public meeting.

Martin County seems to be in a hurry to submit a grant application for the Brightline station. TWUA may be demanding a federal investigation into Brightline, due to Brightline possibly opposing union formation, which conflicts with the grant requirements.

Below is the link requesting bid for the station.

Port Salerno CRA 10/28

They agreed to change the verbiage and only allow 3 story buildings, not 4 as was mentioned in the design standards. Still no answer on the appeal process that they are trying to implement into the designs, as well as no information provided on the CRA balance of available money for our NAC. 4th quarter report has no mention on money, only projects.

On a better note!

The Community of Port Salerno is AMAZING!

After the devastation of the tornados that ripped the homes of our neighbors apart, we all came together! Family, friends and neighbors of our community united to help each other with outpouring love.

Casey Cass teamed SOS up with Elev8hope to bolster both organizations in supporting our community. We would like to recognize the following, if we are missing someone we apologize & please let us know.

Casey and his team at Casco Tools for giving donations, collecting & giving supplies, beings hands on, lending chain saws, plywood, tarps and generators, opening a checking account for donations to be made and much more.

Evan Anderson and family for being hands on, helping everywhere needed and sending in donations of every kind.

Elev8hope for doing what you do best! Making sure people had necessary items and roofs over as many heads as you could.

Timber Tree, for removing dangerous damaged trees at no cost.

Brittany Garvin-Albury from Charlston SC. Who kept the truckloads of supplies coming daily and set up in New Monrovia.

Basin Market and Captain Hook for serving over 700 meals.

Our Community Table for serving so many meals.

Mavericks for holding a baked ziti dinner fundraiser.

Jessie White and family who cleaned up around, planted and painted the Rocky point sign.

Kelly Grandinetti of Rocky Point for forming and running the Rocky Point Tornado Relief Group and organizing help.

The food set up in New Monrovia was amazing also!

More mentions go out to: Tender Care services, Richelle Ward Watson, Shear Water Marine, Billfish Air Conditioning, Chefs Table, Emmet Dempsey, Bones Dent Repair Laronda Grey, Chandler Josie, Salerno Pizza, and many, many more again, we apologize if we didn’t mention you.

Did you think we forgot our linemen? No way! Big shout out to all of the linemen who helped get our power back on. Also, thank you to those who brought them food and drinks. Way to go!
