In a time where information is everywhere and just a click away, separating truth from falsehood is more important than ever. This challenge is especially true for community-focused groups, where different viewpoints can shape how residents feel about initiatives. One such initiative, Save Our Salerno, has sparked conversations among residents. Are you clear on what this organization does and how it impacts the local community? This blog post will explore the goals and actions of Save Our Salerno to help you uncover the facts.
Where'd We Come From
SOS didn't just drop from the sky one bright and sunny day; it was founded by a local business owner who saw destruction coming to Port Salerno. He saw how the county has hidden agendas, agendas that would not preserve our historical town of Port Salerno. His name is Casey Cass, and in his words "Our community is not defined by architecture or social class: rather it is the compilation of its residents' hearts and souls. They are the essence and protectors of Salerno and what makes this place our home. We are Salerno"
Anyone how knows him understands the great lengths he has gone through to help our community. Past, present and future.
About us
At its heart, Save Our Salerno focuses on preserving and enhancing the Salerno area. The focus includes advocating and uniting residents, business owners and stakeholders. We are a community focused organization. The organization is committed to creating a sense of belonging among residents to ensure Salerno remains a vibrant, inclusive and livable community for generations to come. The movement pushes back against processes that bypass community input, emphasizing the importance of the NAC (neighborhood redevelopment agency) in redevelopment decisions.
Save Our Salerno knows that active community involvement is essential for achieving its goals. The organization has launched various outreach programs aimed at engaging residents, like the Port Salerno Community Chest, Scholarship fund, Community Garden and other events. With the leadership of Casey, we joined forces with Elev8hope and The Lift Project in efforts to help the tornado victims in 2024.
By hosting events that encourage active participation, Save Our Salerno cultivates a space where residents can share their concerns and suggestions. For example, our first Christmas Jamboree brought hundreds of people and families together, our clean ups bring volunteers to help clean our adopted road. Salerno Road. Then after we relax at the SOS office and enjoy a BBQ, and conversations.
We also invite you to join us at meetings. We send emails, blogs and social media posts to bring you information, helping you understand what is happening in your community.
We have an office at 4635 SE Dixie Hwy, we invite you to stop in and see what it's about. (as of today Tuesday - Thursday 9-4:30) When we finish our renovations, we will be able expand our hours for you.
